We prefer to finalize our itinerary, plane and crew at least a week in advance. We did not get things completely final until the day of the actual flight. Secondly, we prefer to pay post-flight rather than pre-flight. You were able to make an exception in our case which was appreciated. Lastly, the quality of the catering service from STT was atrocious. It was inedible.
As always, your staff is a pleasure to work with, and are very good with their communication, etc. I (of course) wish we didn't have the snafu with your client cutting the trip short, only to change his mind - costing us an additional 3 hours of flight time (approx. $10,000) - since we cancelled a trip with another operator to accommodate his request to leave early. I think there should have been a consideration for a 2 hour cancellation fee or something there. We understand that this wasn't Stratos Jets' doing - but I believe your client should have been penalized in some way as he was informed we had another trip and he told us to cancel it to accommodate him. This was very disappointing (and financially detrimental) for us, especially as we had lowered the cost of the trip (in addition to removing all minimums) prior to booking. The only way it made sense for us to do that was to fly while sitting transient.
I have been around private aircraft and charter companies for over 20 years. Based on that experience, I can say that ExecuJet has provided me with excellent service and aircraft. They always have been able to meet my needs and surpass my expectations. A company is successful because of its people and certainly the people at ExecuJet are wonderful to work with. I will continue to be a part of the ExecuJet family for many years to come.
The flying speed of a private jet varies dramatically depending on the type of aircraft. For example the fastest civilian aircraft in the world is the Citation X (ten), however many smaller jets including the range of aircraft called VLJs (Very Light Jets) are relatively slow compared to airlines. The time saving of flying privately is made on the ground. With minimal check in times and no delays waiting for luggage and clearing customs, flying by private jet is much faster than using a scheduled airline. Also on longer flights Air Traffic Control (ATC) will be able to offer private jet many more short cuts than a scheduled airline. This is because most private jets have a higher rate of climb and can fly higher than a normal air scheduled airline.
Private jet charter involves paying to use someone else’s aircraft when they are not using it. This is normally a one off adhoc charter agreement with no long term financial commitment. Fractional ownership involves sharing the full cost of purchasing and operating an aircraft. As such chartering a private jet can is often described as subsidised flying as the fixed costs (such as aircraft purchasing and depreciation, pilot salaries, aircraft maintenance and insurances) are paid for by the owner. When you charter someone else’s aircraft you are only paying for the fuel, airport fees and a small amount of extra cost to allow the aircraft owner to offset some of his annual tax bill.
Originating from the 1962 de Havilland DH.125 medium-sized corporate jet, the Hawker Beechcraft 750 is a light-to-midsize jet based on the 800 model. The Hawker 750 has more baggage space and a larger cabin than its predecessor, even claimed as the largest cabin in the class by Hawker. Like the entire Hawker family, the aircraft upholds the company’s high reliability and performance standards. Deliveries of the Hawker 750 began in 2008.
Other near-term empty leg deals included Houston to Aspen on a Citation X seating eight for $14,000, not much less than an eight-seat Learjet 45XR for $18,945 with a normal charter. Skyjet, a broker that also offers empty legs had one this weekend from Nassau in the Bahamas to Ft. Lauderdale on a six-seat Phenom 300 for $3,000. Ft. Lauderdale to Key West and Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale, also on a Phenom 300, were being offered at $2,625 each. Chartering a similar aircraft for the same timings the regular way would run around $6,000.
Situated some 600 miles off the eastern seaboard of the United States, Bermuda is an archipelago consisting of approximately 138 islands. Bermuda is known as a luxurious island destination with picture perfect beaches or a night sky to die for. Though majority of visitors come for its pristine and secluded beaches, Bermuda has some great places of interests like Hamilton City which is the seaside capital of Bermuda, St. George's Town which is a unique UNESCO World Heritage site, and Kings Wharf and Royal Naval Dockyard which are the original pier and the largest cruise port in the island.
This survey reall doesn't apply to the use my company had with Stratos. We had to expedite a piece of equipment and a contractor to our facility to perform some emergency repairs. The process however did go well and the equipment and person arrived on time and the entire process was handled by Will Buckley in a very professional manner and was extremely helpful in making this adventure easy and convenient. My experience with Stratos has been very good since I started booking jets several years ago. Joel and his team provide excellent service and followup at every stage. We recently had a flight where the incoming plane had a mechanical and they were able to replace it with a comparable one within just a few hours. Our original take off time was only missed by less than a half hour. The Stratos team communicated with us all along the way and everything was fine. The pilots are very good at what they do and the ground organization is thorough and efficient. I would recommend them to a friend.
I believe the amount of work that should be done for each on-demand charter is in part why the trend towards jet cards is undisputed. The number of providers and programs has more than doubled in the past decade. You no longer have to commit six figures. There are programs starting at $25,000. There are also programs that offer 100 hours of flying if you are constantly on the go. Cards today aren’t limited just to the U.S. There are providers with service areas Europe and the Middle East and even worldwide options. There are also jet cards covering everything from turboprops like the King Air 350i and Pilatus PC-12 to ultra long-haul business jets like the Bombardier Global Express. Each jet card provider has its own standards for sourcing the aircraft it uses and the experience it requires of the pilots that will fly you, so while on-demand charter is always an option, jet cards can be a real time saver if you find a program that matches your needs.
I personally think a really great destination is St Moritz. Or there’s Samedan airport which is ten minutes from St Moritz. It’s an amazingly beautiful approach and an absolute classic example of saving hours and hours over flying commercial. For people who fly in for a ski weekend for two or three nights, we are saving them up to ten hours of skiing time. People would often see flying into St Moritz as being all about the luxury, for the snow polo, but actually sometimes it’s about giving you an extra day of skiing. It’s one of the absolute no brainer reasons why people use private jets to just save themselves hours of time, and hours of hassle.
If the paying customer – that person shelling out $5,000 to $20,000 per hour - cancels his or her trip, then your empty leg will also be cancelled. If you were going somewhere, make sure your hotel and car rental reservations can be changed without penalty. If you were using an empty leg to get home, make sure you also scan the airline schedules and availability so you have a backup plan. Most empty legs can be cancelled anytime before departure, and reasons can include that delays earlier in the day meant your pilots ran out of time to something on the inbound flight broke and needs to be fixed. Oh, and that’s it. You’ll get a refund of your money, but you’re usually on your own, perhaps sitting in a private jet terminal at an airport with no commercial flights.
